We have a proud reputation as one of the largest independent motor and drives distributors in the United States. Since 1932, our roots trace back to manufacturing replacement commutators for DC motors under the Universal Electric brand, originally founded by the Johnson family in Detroit, Michigan.
As A/C motors gained popularity, Universal Electric expanded into distributing and repairing A/C motors. By the early 1970s, we became a GE Motor Distributor, and through the 1990s emerged as one of the nation’s largest independent distributors of electric motors.
The business was acquired by Williams Distributing in 2012 and proudly became part of Verona Industrial Equipment in 2017. Today, we continue the tradition of excellence — combining legacy craftsmanship with forward-looking technology and modern logistics to deliver dependable power solutions for American industry.
